Flurry of Announcements a Day Before Upfronts Begin

• ABC renews What About Brian-How did this middle-of-the-road dramady get picked up before Lost, Grey's Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives?
• ABC picks up comedy pilots A Day In the Life and Let's Rob Mick Jagger-A Day in the Life is Josh Cooke's third leading role in a comedy in three years. How many chances will he get before the network's give up on him?
• FOX renews The O.C., War At Home, and (surprisingly) The Loop-I'm happy for the sleeper comedy but I'm absolutely stunned it got picked up after its lackluster ratings. The other two shows were obvious pickups.
• FOX picks up comedy pilots Happy Hour and The Winner-The Winner sounds like a decent idea but Happy Hour looks like your standard comedy.

The moves the networks have been making are just getting weirder and weirder. I have no idea what ABC is doing. They are in desperate need of a hit comedy yet they keep picking up boring, traditional sitcoms. Then they go and give a renewal order to a disappointing dramady in What About Brian yet don't pick up their drama pilot with their most potential (Secrets of a Small Town).
